Secondary Curriculum

Senior students are educated where the overarching focus is on teaching students self-reliance and responsibility to help students achieve long-term success, well beyond their secondary education. Secondary students have subject choices aligned to the SACE pattern of subjects. The school is regarded for its academic achievements within the senior school over the years, with many exiting students moving onto an academic learning journey. VET and other learning pathway alternatives, remain a focus for the school. Quorn Area School has been recognized as the lead school of the State Government ‘Trade Schools for the Future’ and we are now in our 17th year of working with Industry to develop learning opportunities.

OVERVIEW OF SECONDARY CURRICULUM (FROM AUST CURRICULUM)

In Years 7–10 the Australian Curriculum supports the deepening of knowledge, understanding and skills in all eight learning areas. The curriculum continues to prepare students for civic, social and economic participation and personal health and well being whilst providing increased opportunities for students to make choices and specialise in learning of particular interest. The curriculum is designed to equip students for senior secondary schooling, including vocational pathways.

Head Lice

A case of head lice has been reported within our primary school community today. It is important to regularly check your child's head for lice and then treat if necessary.

Head lice are spread mainly through direct head-to-head contact but may also be spread by sharing hats, combs and other hair accessories.
Anyone can get head lice.
Please refer to the head lice prevention and treatment fact sheet for information on head lice, how to check, treatment and prevention.
Head lice are much easier to treat if caught early.
To prevent the spread of head lice, you should check your child(ren) daily over the next three weeks and regularly after that.

Please inform the school or preschool if your child presents with head lice and make sure they are treated before returning.

Today, we are reaching out to invite you to become an active part of our school community by volunteering your time, skills, and expertise.

Foster a Sense of Belonging: Volunteering allows you to connect with our school community, forging meaningful relationships with learners, parents, and staff. It provides a sense of belonging and strengthens the bond among all stakeholders.
Enhance Learner Support: Your involvement can directly impact our learners' academic and personal growth. Whether you assist in the classroom, mentor learners, or support extracurricular activities, your presence and guidance can inspire and motivate our young learners.

How Can You Get Involved?

There are numerous opportunities to volunteer at Quorn Area School. At this moment in time, we would especially welcome your support in the following areas:

Breakfast Club: Work alongside other volunteers to ensure all of our learners are fuelled up and ready for a day of learning.
Library Support: Assist our librarian in organising and maintaining the school library, facilitating book exchanges, and promoting a love for reading among our learners.
Gardening: Work alongside our staff, learners or independently to share your enjoyment of growing vegetables and maintaining our extensive grounds.
Event Coordination: Join our event planning committees to organise school-wide activities, such as fundraisers, cultural celebrations, field trips, and special events.
Sports and Extracurricular Activities: Assist coaches and club advisors in organising and supervising sports practices, games, clubs, and other extracurricular activities.
